Velveeta

This is the photo from the recycler ad of  the yellow '76 Wagoneer that led me down the trail of FSJ addiction.

In July of 1998, I started becoming interested in Wagoneers and Cherokees. I found the IFSJA site. Soon I joined THE LIST. Gradually I started following the exploits of Doc, Michael Baxter, Lindel, James Blair, Ray Droulliard, Joe Schaefer, et al. I was hooked.

I purchased Velveeta in August of 1998. The Wag was a big yellow box. So I named her "Velveeta". Velveeta came with Rancho RS5000 shocks and 3" or 4" lift (add-a-leafs in back). The headliner had been replaced and she had chrome spoke wheels. Drivetrain was (and is) a 401 Engine,TH400, Quadratrac transfer case and D44s with 3.07 gears.

Since I got her, Velveeta has had rear main seal done. tranny rebuilt, the Motorcraft 4350 rebuilt and FINALLY replaced w/an Edelbrock 1400 on the stock manifold. The Whatever brand tires were replaced w/ 31.5 x10.5 Bridgestone Dueler A/Ts. Halogen headlamps, new lenses for tailights and a million other little things. The IFSJA list members have helped me out a lot with keeping Velveeta up and running.

Velveeta and I have had our share of mishaps and traumas , but I've learned a lot. She also handles great (easier to park than my N*ss*n ***SX) and goes like a *******.

My dogs, Buddy and Durf groove on the spacious cargo area, panoramic view and ventilation. Its certainly not logical, but FSJs are great!

I've added a page with links to various FSJ/Jeep/Automotive sites that I found useful. If you have a link that you would like added, email me.

Borg Warner Quadra-Trac

These are scans of the complete Quadra-Trac section of the 76 TM in order(GIF format). The file names correspond to page numbers.I haven't done worked on this part of Velveeta yet, so I can't offer any advice. However, the information is here. Complete sets are available in  .ZIP  and  .sit  format.

Electrical/Cooling/Wiring

Currently Velveeta has an MSD 6A Ignition with an MSD Coil with Champion truck plugs gapped at .055. I installed a Hellroaring Battery Isolater with a 2ga. wire (inside a PVC pipe alongside the frame) running to the 2nd. battery box in back. Right now, I'm using two Optima Red Tops.

My rad sprung a leak and Velveeta was running hot,so I added a 16" electric fan w/ Painless Wiring relay kit and a 4 row GDI radiator from Radiator.com. It was a good deal and was delivered same day(no delivery charge). Its not listed on the site but, Ken W of the IFSJA had got one for that price. They initially said $256, but matched the price. Cooling problem solved. I should have done this a long time ago! Eventually I'd like to re-do ALL the wiring with a kit from Painless Wiring when I'm rich and have lots of free time.

Here are individual scans of the Chero/Wag wiring diagram from the 76 TSM in .GIF format.Thy're about 150K ea. I also posted .ZIP and .sit versions which have 'em all except the charging diagram if you want to download quicker and view offline.

Smog Equipment/Carb/Gas Tank/exhaust
Here's some stuff relating to vacuum lines, smog , etc. some is from the 76 TSM. I replaced ALL of the vacuum hoses and cleaned the EGR valve w/ a toothbrush. I would have liked to replace it , but there are several and I am not sure of the P/N on mine. This and checking for vacuum leaks on the manifold helped a lot. I think thre's stuff on the Motorcraft 4350 too. I Replaced the carb with an Edelbrock 1400, which REALLY helped Velveeta run better (I hope I won't have any smog certificate issues next year). Velveeta has also gotten a new 40 gal. AERO Enterprises fuel tank(since they're in SoCal, I drove out there and they installed it), replaced her fuel pump, and lots of fuel lines. I had problems w/the fuel filler neck and currently have replaced the lower piece with a piece of 2" steel tube that a local garage bent(eventually this needs to get replaced.). Joe Schaefer sent me the parts lists stuff(thanks Joe!). Rather than keep it hidden on my drive or emailing it , I've just posted it. Hope its useful...some are kinda large.
