Over sixty years ago, when audio was on the cutting edge of physics, teams of this country's brightest engineers were developing equipment for sound recording and reproduction. They could afford to work without the commercial constraints placed on today's designers. 

 RCA developed a superior series of recording and broadcast microphones that included the 44BX and 77DX. The 44 and 77’s smooth top end and uncolored sound make them studio favorites today. They are also visual icons of an era when technology and glamour were synonymous.

R44SM 

Visual replica of the classic RCA-44 housing includes: 

  • internal shockmount for Schoeps or other miniature side-address microphones.  
  • Supplied with internal female XLR wired to 6-foot cable and male XLR connector.  
  • Black or Umber;  bright or satin chrome finish, with 5/8-27F stand mount.
  • replica “cushion mount” to support entire microphone housing;  with 5/8-27 stand adaptor.

R44C "Classic" Bi-Directional Ribbon Mic:

The R44C is truly a modern Classic. Its exterior speaks for itself. Close inspection reveals a design based on the technology that  made the original RCA ribbon mics  classics, and use of as many of the original type materials as possible. Painstaking  research by  ribbon mic specialists has gone into making the R44C sound as good as it looks. 

AEA Replacement  Parts for RCA Mics:

RCA Ribbon mics are now collectors pieces and sell for thousands of dollars. The original owners of these mics , however, had a more utilitarian view; and even the best cared for tools are subject to wear or damage. R44SM Replica Microphone Housing:
Film, Stage, and Television productions require prop mics that recreate the "feel" of a time or place as well as being historically accurate. Finding someone willing to rent such a mic is often difficult and seldom cheap. 

The R44SM fits this application perfectly. They allow the use of a high quality “wired” microphone in situations where a poorer quality wireless mic or  less controlled boom mic would normally be used. This means better sound and less ADR .
